Franziska Nast, *INNEN auf außen, 2023, Tattoo
×Franziska Nast collects, transforms, draws and writes - on sheets of paper, skin, walls, floors, on any ground – with pens, with needle, with light and with high-pressure cleaner. In 2023, Nast was part of the group exhibition INNEN at Künstler:innenhaus Bremen. For her two editions INNEN auf außen – a sweatshirt and a tattoo edition – she has taken up and transformed the gendered part of the word. She uses a needle to draw it on fabric and skin. For her own fashion label Fack Fushion, which has specialized in upcycling used clothing for many years, the artist has dyed or decolored four sweaters, creating galaxy-like patterns on which she has embroidered the drawing.
For her other annual edition under the same title *INNEN auf außen, Nast has developed a tattoo motif that only fully unfolds on the buyer’s skin. In various sizes byers can get a drawing based on the embroidery on the sweaters tattooed in Hamburg. Tattooing has been part of her artistic practice since 2007 and is therefore a recurring part of Nast’s exhibitions.-

×Each of the six unique works SM Olympia I-VI by Rebekka Kronsteiner consists of a knitted or crocheted typewriter ribbon, created using a different stitching technique. She previously used the ribbon to write the six texts from her work who cares (2023), which is part of her presentation at the gallery of Künstler:innenhaus Bremen. Knitting, sewing and weaving, just like typing as a secretarial task, are activities with feminine connotations – and to this day are often poorly paid. The artist has formed a surface from the ribbon by processing it by hand. Clamped between a colored sheet of paper as a picture carrier and a glass, the paint remaining on the tape leaves traces, runs down and paints shadows. Kronsteiner is interested in the typewriter ribbon as a carrier of diverse expressive possibilities, but also in the random moments in the editing process of the ribbon and the impossibility of correction.
The typewriter the artist worked with came from her grandmother, who worked with it all her life as a secretary until the first computers were introduced, which made digital correction and the blurring of traces possible.-

Rodrigo Hernandez
Rodrigo Hernández Summer Shower, 2015. Foto: Fred Dott
Hernández’ works always begin with drawings, which often occur quickly and are only a subtle suggestion of something. “The rest of the process is in a way just a reflection and a negotiation with that original drawing”, says Hernández, “working on its advancement into a painting, a sculpture or a large installation, but trying not to get too far from it, believing that there is something true and direct about it that should remain no matter what it gives form to.”
