Kathrin Ingrassano

Die Reise um mein Zimmer

20.09.–09.11.08

A journey around my room is both an appropriated fragment and an apt description of Kathrin Ingrassano;s artistic approach: the artist is constantly travelling in her immediate surroundings, exploring both the things arranged around her and the structural rules that emerge from that arrangement. Bed, table, cupboard, but also cable, foil or foam have inherent functions and originate in specific contexts. Using such utility items from her respective surroundings, Ingrassano creates installations which are embedded in their concrete place. At the same time, she explodes static laws through her massive constructions and relieves her raw materials of their rigidity and gravity. The material pours, expands, drifts in the flow. The exhibition Die Reise um mein Zimmer at the Künstlerhaus Bremen consists of site-specific objects and items privately owned by the artist. Thus a symbiosis is achieved of foreign and personal objects, which at the same time represents an appropriation of found possessions.
