Rising, falling, shrinking, and collapsing are terms that, on their own, do not inherently suggest sculptural techniques. They do, however, aptly describe the methods used by Tim Reinecke in creating an installation for his solo exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Bremen. This comprises a variety of variable processes that remain unpredictable throughout the course of the exhibition: for example, when substances dry out, just barely maintaining a semblance of their original contour, or in other cases, succumb to the forces of gravity and collapse upon themselves. In other words, matter appears to take on a life of its own and becomes an active participant in the creative process.

The exhibition’s title Beyond Thrill evokes an atmosphere we are all familiar with: the celebration has long ended and all that can be found are traces of past revelry. However, rather than drawing attention to and romanticizing the mechanics of decay, Tim Reinecke manages to capture an ever-evolving energy that is both sensual and anarchic at the same time.
