Bremer Atelierstipendium 2025: Yoriko Seto
The Bremen Studio Grant 2025 goes to the artist Yoriko Seto, born in 1975 in Fukuoka, Japan. After graduating in graphic design, she went on to study fine art, which she completed in 2024 under Prof. Heike Kati Barath at the University of the Arts in Bremen. Yoriko Seto’s artistic work includes drawings, artist books, animated films and, more recently, interactive objects.
An external jury of experts, which advises the Senator for Culture, has selected Yoriko Seto as a studio grant holder for 2025. The jury statement reads: “Yoriko Seto explores the dimensions of memories with her drawing practice, deepening and intensifying them. She impressed the jury with her reduced and extremely condensed formal language, in which a poetic-melancholic sense for the nuances of human existence flashes up and an ironic wink. Remarkably, both her drawings and her animated films conquer the space for themselves in order to surprise us with new, intimate forms of presentation.”
Yoriko Seto: “I am excited about the people I will meet at the Künstler:innenhaus. And it’s the first time I’ve been able to use such a large workspace for myself alone.”
A final presentation in December 2025 will provide an insight into the studio grant holder’s work. The team at Künstler:innenhaus Bremen is looking forward to the artist “moving in” to the scholarship studio in January.
