Exchange Bremen/Dortmund 2024
Two houses, two artists, one program: in 2024, Künstler:innenhaus Bremen and Künstlerhaus Dortmund are launching an artistic exchange between the cities and regions. The “Exchange Bremen/Dortmund” residency program enables artists to live and work in each city for one month and offers an opportunity to discover new perspectives, receive creative impuls and gain experience.
The first two exchange partners are Debora Ando from Dortmund and Sarah Lüdemann (Beauham) from Bremen. Debora Ando will move into the guest studio in Bremen in April while Sarah Lüdemann (Beauham) will be starting her residency in Dortmund in June. The artists form a tandem and accompany each other on-site.
In her work, Debora Ando (lives and works in Dortmund) deals with the exploration of space, which explores a cosmos of repetition, entropy, temporality and transience. In this sense, she sees each of her works as a place. A place is a space pause. Ando addresses the relationship between two- and three-dimensionality through material and surface, with a focus on printmaking installation, drawing and analog photographic processes.
The artist studied Fine Arts with a focus on print graphics and drawing at the Universidade de São Paulo/Brazil and received a Master of Arts in Visual Arts Practice from the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Ireland. She has had her studio at Künstlerhaus Dortmund since 2019. Ando has taken part in exhibitions in Germany, Austria, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland and the USA.
Sarah Lüdemann (Beauham) (lives and works in Bremen) has been a member of Künstlerhaus Bremen since 2019 and her work focuses on social choreographies and physicality in changing contexts. Lüdemann (Beauham) completed her Master of Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in London, Great Britain, with honours in 2011. She has recently shown work in solo and duo exhibitions at Kunstverein Ludwigshafen and Kunstverein Bochum. Sarah Lüdemann (Beauham) has also exhibited in Germany, Serbia, Croatia, France, Turkey Egypt, Australia and the US.
