In autumn 2026, Künstler:innenhaus Bremen presents the solo exhibition In der Wiederholung beginnen wir (In Repetition, We Begin) by Swiss artist Nina Emge (*1995, Zurich, where she lives and works). Her body of work spans sound pieces and sculptures, with her artistic practice exploring different modes of listening.
Emge’s sculptures, whether they are freestanding or wall-mounted, serve as vessels for stories, craft knowledge, materials, and plants. This approach runs throughout her research and archival work, her installations and drawings, as well as the often collaborative processes through which her works are conceived and produced. The exhibition reflects these diverse modes of collective making, listening, and attentive listening with the audience, all of which play a central role in Emge’s practice.
Applied to the realm of sound, Emge understands listening as a shared process that unfolds between bodies, spaces, and situations. She distinguishes between hearing and listening, framing them as passive and active modes of engagement, and uses sound and tone as a medium through which stories can be deepened and forms of knowledge can be communicated. In der Wiederholung beginnen wir thus proposes a reconsideration of listening within the context of contemporary social and aesthetic questions. At a time when the public sphere is becoming increasingly fragmented, the exhibition opens a space in which listening can be experienced as a collective practice: one centered on sustaining and shaping polyphony, and the coexistence of multiple voices and perspectives.
